Nominate A Charity

Organizations may be nominated if they:

  • Are a non-profit recognized by the IRS as a 501c 3 organization.

  • Serve the Kodiak, Alaska area. Local chapters of national charities will be considered if 100% of the contribution stays in our community.

  • Please, no church or political organizations at this time.

  • Agree not to create, sell, or distribute a list with our members' contact information, and agree not to solicit our members directly for future contributions.

  • Agree to provide tax receipts directly to chapter members for their donation.

  • Agree to send a representative to our next meeting to give a 5 minute update on how our money was (or will be) used to help our community.

Nominating FAQ’s

Can a charity be nominated by more than one person?

Yes.  Every member can nominate one charity at each meeting.  Having more than one member nominate the same charity simply increases that charity’s chance of being picked.  If more than one member’s name gets chosen for the same charity, they can select which person will give the presentation, but it can only be given by one of the members whose names were selected.  Also, three unique charities will be presented at each meeting so names will be chosen until there are three different ones pulled.

What if my name is picked to present at the meeting, but I can’t attend?

Then you should have a friend act on your behalf for the presentation.  However, you will not be able to vote due to your absence.

What should I say in my presentation?

If you’re considering nominating a charity, here are some Presenter Tips to help you craft your presentation.

Can I nominate the same charity more than once?

Yes. There is no limit to the number of times you can nominate the same charity over time, but only once at each meeting.

Once a charity receives an award, can it be nominated again?

Any charity that receives an award must wait one year before it can be nominated again.
